This picture is not one of my finest....although I am glad I have it to show the moment as it was. The picture is a Polaroid that the hospital staff took, because it was in the NICU and our family wasn't allowed back in the area yet with their cameras.
Having had a C-section and Hunter being born 10 weeks early they whisked him away after he was born. I didn't get to hold him right away as the Dr. and nurses were trying to make sure his breathing and air way was ok. I had to go into a room after the surgery so they could monitor me for a little while. I don't know if it was a combination of the drugs for the c-section or the drugs I was receiving all week at the hospital, I was for lack of better words...stoned. It took quite a while for the drugs to wear off after Hunter was born. In this above picture I was so happy to finally hold Hunter, but a little bummed that I couldn't fully enjoy meeting him for the first time because I was so out of it....
I knew in my mind why it wasn't a good picture, but wanted to see from a 4 year old perspective.
Me- "Why do you think it's not a good picture?"
Hunter asks - "Are you dead?"
Oh my, I knew it wasn't good....Matt looks all chipper and I look dead.

Yeah we women get the sorry end of the hook on glamor shots for this day. Oh well it is a great moment though isn't it? Magic moment that a mother never forgets (stoned or not) ;)
Stoned or not, the moment is there.
I was very messed up with my first born too and have pictures to show it so I can empathize. Special memories.
Happy Mothers Day!
