Hunter and Dawn holding their cup of sugar water up for the birds.
We started our zoo visit with the Larakeets. My girlfriend states this one of her favorite parts of the zoo. OK, so I have never stopped at the Larakeets before. I always passed them up because I thought it was just an area to watch birds flying, which I feel I can do that outside of the zoo in my normal surroundings. My friend informs me that you actually get to go in their cage and you can by sugar water and they will fly up to you and drink the sugar water from a cup and sit on your hand. Oh, that sounds cool! So we go in and wow, there were a lot of birds and I couldn't believe how close they were. It was really cool until they start flying around and fly right at you! I kept ducking thinking they were going to hit me in the head. The other part I didn't like is they kept relieving themselves of their little droppings as they were flying over your head. My friend at one point had one sitting on her hand drinking from the cup. She asks if I want to hold the cup of nectar? I'm like no way do I want one of those things sitting on my hand and pecking me.
I walked out of that caged area with my neck so tense from anticipating every time I needed to duck from those birds! I have to say they are very beautiful birds, but to me they are beautiful in their surroundings with me not in their surroundings.
