Hunter and I was driving home today and we were talking about our day. Hunter says, "Mom, I hate Barney." At that moment I was thinking, I can see why you don't like the purple dinosaur. He is a little annoying to me, but I never know what kids shows Hunter is going to like and not like. At any rate, I told Hunter that we don't say "hate". We may not like something and that is okay, but we don't hate. Then he used one of the those notorious lines, "Johnny says it." (a boy at daycare) I talked to Hunter a little more about the topic and that sometimes we may say and do things different at our house than a friend does at their house. I could see Hunter in the rear view mirror thinking about this. Then he says, "Sometimes I like Barney and sometimes I don't like Barney."
After our conversation I began to chuckle to myself thinking back to a similar conversation my mom had with me. I found myself smiling as I was driving thinking about the things we as parents say that our parents said to us.

I agree, I HATE him as well. And thank goodness I'm an adult and can say that! lol
I can't believe he is still on the air? Wasn't he big in the early 90's??
That's a great story. I find myself repeating things my parents did when I was young too. Funny how we copy them. And as far as the hate word, we don't like it either. A matter of fact Nathan is in trouble for using ugly words such as that and is "not happy about losing his priviledges."
I never had any of my kids be a big Barney lover but I have to say I have a lot of friends who swear by his show. It is definitely annoying for adults! I had to leave gymboree one time b/c I was getting so annoyed listening to it ;)
We have had our dealings with HATE at our house. But it was when Tytus would get mad at us then he would start to pout and say that he hated us. I went to work one night after he had a I HATE YOU episode. When I got home in the morning as he was getting ready to go to daycare I sat down with him and told him that I thought all night how he hated me and my feelings were hurt all night at work thinking about it. We then decided that Hate was a bad word in our house.
