"Mom, I'm okay."

Yesterday evening I noticed a shadow by Hunter's nose. As I looked closer I could tell it was the start of a bruise. I asked Hunter if he fell or if something hit him at Debbie's (daycare) today. He was playing on the floor and not paying much attention to me as he was more interested in the super heroes he was playing with. I asked him again. "Hunter did something hit you in the face?" He keeps playing and doesn't even look up, "yah, I got hit by the monkey bars".

Me: "when you were outside after your nap?"

Hunter: "yah"

Me: "did someone push it at you or did you just walk into it?"

he finally stops what he is doing and looks at me and says "mom, I'm okay."

Me: "okay"

I walk into the other room to where Matt was. I said "did you hear that?"

Matt: "ya, sounds like he's okay" and he looks at me with one of those what's the big deal looks.

Funny how my motherly instincts kick in way after the event happened and he's moved on and isn't even looking back.

The momma bear instinct is pretty strong! I still remember the day Jordan didn't want me to walk him to the bus stop any more. I was grabbing my shoes the first day of fourth grade and I said just a minute let me get my shoes. He said no its okay. I thought he was just trying to be nice. I said really Jordan it will only take me a minute. Then he said Really stern NO mom its okay I can walk MYSELF to the bus okay. I put my shoes down I was carrying and it sinked in what he was saying and I watched him walk out the door with a tear in my eye...

I like hearing the mama bear stories. I believe my Mom was like that. I think I was around 12 and she was still trying to grab my hand when we crossed the street. I remember distinctly pulling it away with a "mawwwwm".
