The No-cry discipline solution...

I started a book on vacation that I got from the library. It is The no-cry discipline solution by Elizabeth Pantley. I have been wanting to get a book to help me get ideas and solutions to deal with the whiny, tantrums and tears of a 3 year old. I have been loving this book and wanted to share an excerpt from it...

"I have noticed many times when my husband starts to discipline my son, I jump in and try to make what he has done seem not so bad. For some reason I get this maternal urge to save him. Save him from what? I think about it later and realize that he was misbehaving and his daddy was correcting him, so no saving was necessary! Even though we are using the same technique, we use different verbal and nonverbal approaches. That maternal instinct is always right there, but I have to continue to make an effort to let it go because my way is not the only way. I can see that our son is responding very well to the consistency of both of us in our own separate ways."

I have found myself in this same situation and found this little excerpt very helpful in knowing that I am not alone in feeling this way....and I definitely agree that Matt and I have different ways and both ways are good which helps us be a very good team.

That is a good reminder...

I agree. I think you can disagree, but just not in front of the kiddos.

I find myself jumping in when Terry is disciplining Tytus and I really don't know why. I think Terry is a great parent and really good at disciplining Tytus, but I guess I always felt like I needed to save him. I am so happy to know why now and that I am not the only person who does this (I think Terry will be happy to know why now too).
