Special Olympic's Torch Run

Every year people from our work participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run. It is a two day event where people from Law enforcement agencies from all over the nation run to raise awareness and money for Special Olympics.

About a month ago Matt and I signed up for 2.8 miles of the run on Friday. I have always wanted to run in something like this and never had. This was my chance to do it and I was stoked! I talked Matt into doing it with me and I will add he was not as excited about it as I was. It took a lot of coaxing and talking him into doing it, but he decided to do it with me since it was something I was wanting to do so bad. We both work out at the gym 4-5 days a week, but neither of us are your typical runners.

We were both set to run. Then I went into my dentist and found out that I had another wisdom tooth coming in and the only appointments they had was July 24th or last Wednesday, two days before the run. I didn't want to wait a month to get my teeth out so I chose Wednesday. When I broke the news to Matt he was less than excited that he was going to be running this event that I talked him into and now I wasn't going to be running. I actually thought I might be able to run the event even with getting my wisdom teeth out, but when I talked to my dentist office she pretty much just laughed at me saying it was not a good idea. Knowing what I know now and how I felt, she was definitely right!

The picture of Matt is after running the 2.8 miles with the temperature being over 90 degrees that day...can you say hot! What a trooper! =)

I am an inspiring runner. Love the idea of it and try and try and try. I have improved but can empathize with your desire and "the not typical runner" part. I think it is awesome Matt did it! Way to go!!! Great story! And I did think of you last Wednesday; glad you are back and kicking. :)

We have this at work but I just bought the t-shirt. That is about all the support this fat lady can do...
Great Job-- Matt...
